What Extract PDF Pages does
Extract Pages pulls a chosen set of pages out of a PDF into a new, standalone document. Enter the pages you want — 2, 4-9, or a combination such as 1, 3-5, 12 — and the tool copies exactly those pages, in ascending order, into a fresh file. The pages are copied as objects, not re-drawn, so text stays selectable, images keep their resolution and the layout is untouched. The original is never modified and nothing is uploaded; everything runs inside your browser.
Selection syntax
| You type | Pages in the new file |
|---|---|
| 4 | Page 4 |
| 1-3 | Pages 1, 2 and 3 |
| 2, 5, 8 | Pages 2, 5 and 8 |
| 1, 4-6, 10-11 | Pages 1, 4, 5, 6, 10 and 11 |
| 7, 3 | Pages 3 and 7 — output is always in original order |
Numbers refer to physical page positions starting at 1, not to numbers printed on the pages. A report with a two-page cover and contents has its printed “page 1” at position 3. The tool displays the total page count after you choose a file so you can sanity-check ranges.
Extract vs delete vs split
- Extract — you name the pages to keep. Best when you want a small subset of a long document.
- Delete — you name the pages to remove. Best when you want most of a document minus a few pages.
- Split — no page list; produces one file per page or two halves. Best for breaking a whole document apart.
All three produce clean, independent PDFs. If you need several separate range files (chapters, for example), run Extract once per range.
Common uses
- Sharing part of a contract — send only the signature page or the schedule that concerns the recipient.
- Pulling a chapter or article from a large book, journal issue or annual report.
- Isolating a form from a multi-form government or HR packet.
- Preparing pages for conversion — extract the one page you need before running PDF to JPG rather than converting the whole file.
- Building a custom handout — take specific slides from a deck and merge them with other material.
What carries over
| Item | Carried into the new file? |
|---|---|
| Page content, fonts and images | Yes — byte-identical |
| Page size, orientation and rotation | Yes |
| Annotations and form fields on those pages | Yes |
| Links to pages that were also extracted | Yes |
| Links to pages that were not extracted | No — they point nowhere |
| Bookmarks / outline | No |
| Document title and author | No — set with Edit Metadata if needed |
Tips
- To reverse or reorder pages, extract them first, then use the Reorder Pages tool.
- Extracting a single page from a huge file is a quick way to make a lightweight preview to email.
- The output filename is generic; rename it after download so you can tell extracts apart.
- Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked with the password before extraction.
