What Delete PDF Pages does

This tool removes the pages you specify from a PDF and gives you a new file with the rest. Type the page numbers to delete — single pages, ranges, or a mix such as 1, 3, 5-7 — and the tool rebuilds the document without them. Remaining pages keep their content, size, orientation and quality exactly, because they are copied rather than re-rendered. The original file is not modified, and nothing is uploaded: the work happens in your browser.

Page selection syntax

You typePages removed
3Page 3 only
1, 4, 9Pages 1, 4 and 9
5-8Pages 5, 6, 7 and 8
1, 3-4, 10-12Pages 1, 3, 4, 10, 11 and 12
2-2Page 2 (a range of one)

Page numbers are counted from 1 and refer to the physical position in the file, not to any printed page number. A document whose cover is unnumbered and whose first numbered page says “1” has that page at position 2. The tool shows the total page count after you select a file so you can check the range.

Common uses

  • Blank pages — duplex scanning produces an empty page for every single-sided sheet.
  • Cover sheets and separators — fax headers, print-job banners, or the “this page intentionally left blank” pages.
  • Sensitive content — remove a page of personal data before sharing a document. Note this removes the page entirely; it does not redact text on a page.
  • Trimming exports — drop the terms-and-conditions pages from a statement, or the ads from a downloaded magazine.
  • Fixing merges — remove a duplicate page that crept in when combining files.

Delete vs extract

Delete Pages and Extract Pages are two sides of the same operation. If you want to keep most of a document and drop a few pages, deleting is quicker to type. If you want only a few pages out of a long file, extracting is quicker. Both produce a clean new PDF; choose whichever needs the shorter list.

What happens to the rest of the document

  • Page numbering printed on the pages does not change — page “7” still says 7 even if it is now the fifth page. Use Add Page Numbers afterwards if you need fresh numbering.
  • Internal links that pointed to a deleted page will no longer work; links to surviving pages continue to work.
  • Bookmarks (the outline panel) are not carried into the new file.
  • Shared resources such as fonts used only by deleted pages are dropped, so the file may shrink more than the removed pages' share would suggest.

Troubleshooting

  • “Invalid page” or nothing happens: a number is outside the document's page count, or the input contains a typo. Ranges must go low-to-high (5-8, not 8-5).
  • Deleting every page is not allowed; a PDF must contain at least one page.
  • Encrypted files must be unlocked first with the Unlock PDF tool.

Frequently asked questions

Does deleting pages permanently remove the content?

From the new file, yes — the page objects are not copied. The original file on your computer is unchanged, so keep or delete it as appropriate.

Can I preview pages before deleting?

This tool does not show thumbnails. Open the file in your browser or PDF Viewer to confirm page positions, then enter the numbers here.

Will the output be smaller?

Usually, roughly in proportion to the pages removed. Image-heavy pages account for most of a file's size, so removing them has the biggest effect.

How do I delete pages from a scanned PDF?

The same way. Scanned pages are ordinary pages containing an image.

Is there a page limit?

No fixed limit. Very large documents are constrained only by your device's memory.

Is the file sent to a server?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib.
